Investing in Specialty T’s

With all the special finishes and extra processes, stylish designs do not come cheap and don’t come without a price. With supply and demand increasing for specialty tees, manufacturers are now increasingly more competitive. The ringspun cotton and tri-blends specifically are increasing in sales across the board, so manufacturers most offer better pricing on these items.

How do we approach this matter of the higher price tag? Should we be hesitant in buying these specialty t-shirts? Most decorators will just order from their vendors on an order to order basis. Working with vendors that don’t require set minimums is important. In that way, we can purchase only what’s needed at any time.

Even though we may not stock the specialty tees, we should always take the opportunity to upsell them to specialty tee shirts. Legitimately, our customers do not always know what they want. It is up to us to inform them of the different options, such as tri-blends or 100% ringspun cotton. Many times our customers are more than willing to pay a few dollars more if they get a better quality and stylish tee. They are willing to pay a bit more in order to get that look and feel. Many times the specialty t shirt will look better, wear better, and create goodwill with the customer.

The primary reason decorators use specialty T’s is because they deliver a higher cost per impression. They certainly can buy a cheaper shirt, but how often does that shirt end up in the back of the closet or buried in a drawer if the end user doesn’t feel comfortable in the garment or it’s just not stylish enough? More value is added for the end user if they actually wear the garment more than just for a one-time event.
