Giving your customers great customer service

I’d like to pick up where I left off a few weeks ago regarding the importance of having a real person be able to receive phone calls with a perspective buyer is looking for information. Typically, a Columbus, OH screen printing company has a very short window of opportunity to convince a potential buyer why they should use you over one of the many other Columbus, OH embroidery companies that they have to choose from. With the ability for information to travel around our planet at the speed of light, potential buyers are wanting answers to their questions immediately. I find it very interesting that in spite of the fact that technology has given us the ability to obtain the answer to almost any question instantly people themselves are so much less likely to talk to each other face to face or even answer the telephone when it rings. More than not, they are forced to leave a message with some type of voice mail system that is typically inadequate. You will normally get some type of auto response that sounds something like this: “We’re sorry, but we’re not available to take your call right at this moment. Please leave us a message and we will be glad to get back with you at our very earliest convenience.” The truth is that they’re most likely not too busy to receive your call but they simply choose not to.

I can remember back in the day when I used to have to go door to door and introduce myself in order to find a new customer. I would say: “This is who I am and this is what I do. I realize that you might not actually need any custom tee shirts right now at this moment but eventually you will run out and you will need some more of them. At that time can I please have a chance to at least give you a quote when that time eventually comes? If I can give you a better deal than what you’re presently getting then there is absolutely no reason to change, but since we’ve never done business before, I am prepared to create some type of incentive in order to make it worth your while to at least give me a opportunity to earn your business.” Again, keep in mind that this was way before digital T-shirt printing was ever even thought of. The point I’m trying to make here is that all of this entire sales presentation was done face to face. This gave me the advantage of trying to establish a re-pore with my potential buyer long before they actually even needed what it was I was selling. By the time they actually did need my services they had already met me and were confident that I was going to be able to offer them the very best deal possible.

Now, I understand that those old days have come and gone, but at the same time people have not changed. They still want to receive the very best value for every dollar that they spend. They still like to put a face to a Columbus, OH screen printing and embroidery company and they still like personal customer service. The more things change the more they seem to stay the same.
