Establishing A Custom T-Shirt Printing Business

It’s certainly not an easy thing to accomplish when it comes to building a successful Columbus Ohio T-shirt printing company. It might seem like no big deal to the untrained eye or the outsider knows absolutely nothing about the industry, but that is because a highly trained individual with many years of experience can make anything look easy. For example, I can remember back many years ago when I was a young man going into a building that was having some construction done. I happened to walk by a guy that was doing some drywall work. He was taping the joints and he made it look effortless. This guy was extremely fast and as his taping knife went across the seams, he hardly left any excess material behind. That in turn resulted in very little sanding once the mud dried. I remember saying to myself that sure looks easy and I’m sure I would have no problem with the construction that I was having done at my own house and I could save a little money by doing it myself. So a few days later I went to the store and bought the materials and tools needed to get the job done. What seemed to take this guy just a few minutes to accomplish took me hours. On top of that it didn’t look good. The point I am trying to make is that custom screen printing and embroidery are no exception to this rule. There’s a lot more to it than just owning the equipment. You need to know how to use it properly and there is no substitute for hands on experience and also someone who knows what they are doing who can stand over your shoulder and supervise you.

There is an old saying that says experience is the best teacher, but when it comes to business I’d much rather learn from the mistakes of someone else in order to avoid making my own. I can remember years ago when I first got started in the embroidery business. I started calling around to Columbus, Ohio digital T-shirt printing companies and asking them if they had any used equipment for sale. After many years of being in business for myself and doing a lot of different things, I had enough experience under my belt and know that going out and acquiring the very latest model of brand new screen printing machines was not a good idea. I didn’t want the pressure of taking on a huge overhead before I had the customers to pay for it. So instead of renting a building and hiring a bunch of employees, I decided to do the work myself and set up shop in my garage. I also called up a few of my competitors and asked them if they would mind if I help out around their shop. I told him that they wouldn’t have to pay me. I was willing to work for free, but in return I was going to ask a lot of questions and get some hands-on experience. In hindsight, that was probably the best thing I could have done. After a few months of doing this,, I gradually acquired the confidence I needed as well as the hands-on experience required to be able to process some of the larger and more complicated T-shirt jobs.
